Residential Treatment – What is it?
Treatment typically lasts for 28 days, although programs exist that last as long as a year. The nature of treatment varies from facility to facility but may include the Disease Model of Addiction with a 12-Step approach, client-centered approaches, psychoanalytic approaches, relapse prevention, cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotion regulation, PTSD and trauma therapy, and mindfulness. When looking for the right treatment center you should ask a lot of questions, such as how big are the groups, what is the ratio of counselors to patients, what is the training of the counselors, etc. Also, ensure that the center is appropriately licensed in your state.
